Required to call a general election by the end of the year (due to a five-year rule), British prime minister Rishi Sunak has called for an election to be held … on the 4th of July.

If you are not going outside to watch fireworks here on the 4th of July — watch C-SPAN in the evening, as they will be showing what is (widely expected) to be a Conservative Party defeat in motion. That happened in the General Election of 1997, as the Tories were wiped out.

And just as the Brexit vote in 2016 foretold our disastrous presidential election a few months later … perhaps a Labour Party win … will foretell better news later.

The 4th July - a date forever associated with vanquishing an unpopular, out of touch leadership who charged taxes without providing services. I'm not sure Sunak has thought this through...#GeneralElection
