A story that may gain traction by the end of the decade: Major League Baseball hopes to expand by two cities (as there has been no expansion in twenty-five years). And with speculation that cities such as Nashville and Salt Lake City are among the front-runners: one “radical” realignment (as suggested by former Cincinnati and Washington general manager Jim Bowden) would do away with the old National and American Leagues, and go to an East/West conference set-up (as is the case with basketball and hockey).
This is partly due to the idea of reducing travel as much as possible (especially now that each team faces every other of the 30 teams for at least three games/year) and is reportedly under consideration for later this decade (once the situation with the Oakland/Las Vegas A’s and the Tampa Bay stadium situations are resolved).
Given that the defendant is seeking every way to disrupt the trial: if Joe Biden were to offer commentary, I wonder of 45 would show a newspaper headline to the jury as Charlie Manson did at his own Trial of the Century in 1970?
This recent photo of Paul Manafort at Mar-A-Lago (on the right) ….
… seems at odds with what was reported at his March, 2019 sentencing:
"(Paul) Manafort appeared in court in a wheelchair. He has severe gout, high blood pressure, psoriasis, arthritis, severe anxiety, panic attacks and a constant feeling of claustrophobia, his lawyers say."
A bemused Brian Williams noted (when he was still host of The 11th Hour):
“We have products for just about all of that ... in just our first commercial break”.
Ruth was one of only four people to appear on every episode of “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In” — the others were the hosts (Dan Rowan/Dick Martin) and announcer Gary Owens.
Usually actors/musicians who rail about being persecuted conservatives are has-beens — Dean Cain, Scott Baio, Ted Nugent, Kid Rock, Kevin Sorbo among them.
I loved the character Rob Schneider created on SNL (Richie the Copy Machine Guy) — because I knew that sort of character from big-city office building mailrooms (short-sleeve shirt, pencil behind the ear, knew all batting averages, et al).
But when you decide to become a “conservative comic”, it’s easy to fall down the rabbit hole. The late P.J. O’Rourke was a comedian who happened to be a conservative. By contrast, comics who perform before right-wing audiences are expected to punch-down at those the audience considers their inferiors (i.e., gays, feminists, social justice warriors, immigrants, etc.) …. and stuff happens.
And finally … America’s weirdest house guest re- surfaced last week ...
Let’s close with this Dickey Betts song, on the news of his death at age eighty. This was the first song he wrote for the ABB … and combines several different musical aspects (as was his wont) in a short song.
