The final Beatles song ever (just released today) after-the-jump.
But first: Top Comments appears nightly, as a round-up of the best comments on Daily Kos. Surely ... you come across comments daily that are perceptive, apropos and .. well, perhaps even humorous. But they are more meaningful if they're well-known ... which is where you come in (especially in diaries/stories receiving little attention).------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Send your nominations to TopComments at gmail dot com by 9:30 PM Eastern Time nightly, or by our KosMail message board. Please indicate (a) why you liked the comment, and (b) your Dkos user name (to properly credit you) as well as a link to the comment itself.
Today was the release of the final Beatles song ever: based on vocals by John Lennon in the 1970’s, an unsuccessful attempt to record on top of it (featuring guitar work by George Harrison) in the mid-90’s … and how a famous New Zealand film director’s technological work finally made it possible to bring it all together.
Now and Then's eventful journey to fruition took place over five decades and is the product of conversations and collaborations between the four Beatles that go on to this day. The long mythologized John Lennon demo was first worked on in February 1995 by Paul, George and Ringo as part of The Beatles Anthology project but it remained unfinished, partly because of the impossible technological challenges involved in working with the vocal John had recorded on tape in the 1970s. For years it looked like the song could never be completed.
But in 2022 there was a stroke of serendipity. A software system developed by Peter Jackson and his team, used throughout the production of the documentary series Get Back, finally opened the way for the uncoupling of John’s vocal from his piano part. It marks the completion of the last recording that John, Paul and George and Ringo will get to make together.
It’s a definite introspective John Lennon song — reactions from around the world of musicians and fans is mostly positive, though not uniform. Readers, have a listen and chime in. (Top Comments is always an Open Thread, as well).
I know it's true It's all because of you And if I make it through It's all because of you
And now and then If we must start again Well, we will know for sure That I will love you
Now and then I miss you Now and then I want you to be there for me Always to return to me
I know it's true It's all because of you And if you go away I know you'll never stay
Now and then I miss you Oh, now and then I want you to be there for me

In the diary by ClimateDenierRoundup about the costs to Oklahoma pensioners due to the state’s anti-’woke’ policies — in this comment by the one who knows— each sentence builds up to that great summation.

In the diary by xaxnar about the training Ukranian pilots are receiving in Tucson — I nominate this suggestion by Pogoatty. It would be awesome if they did paint their roof blue and yellow for the Ukrainian pilots training in Arizona.

In the front-page live blog of the Trump Family trial in NYC — Mathy Kathy and Phoenix Rising start an interesting thread on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act… which seems almost antediluvian in today’s world (let along MAGA World).
