A quick look at a student newspaper in-the news, after-the-jump.
But first: Top Comments appears nightly, as a round-up of the best comments on Daily Kos. Surely ... you come across comments daily that are perceptive, apropos and .. well, perhaps even humorous. But they are more meaningful if they're well-known ... which is where you come in (especially in diaries/stories receiving little attention).------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Send your nominations to TopComments at gmail dot com by 9:30 PM Eastern Time nightly, or by our KosMail message board. Please indicate (a) why you liked the comment, and (b) your Dkos user name (to properly credit you) as well as a link to the comment itself.
You’ve no doubt seen the print edition (once-a-week) of the Daily Tar Heel after the campus was on lockdown. I hope that Caitlyn Yaede (managing print editor) is nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for that compelling front page.
If she goes on to future fame in journalism … she wouldn’t be the paper’s first.
In 1954 another editor of the Daily Tar Heel was future CBS newsman Charles Kuralt— who later said that in the wake of the landmark Brown vs. Board of Education case that he wrote some editorials criticizing the slow pace of integration. He concluded one editorial by asking North Carolina legislators that - if it would take as long to desegregate the elementary schools as they said it would - "Why not start by opening up this flagship university to all of the people of this state - after all, it belongs to them". And Kuralt felt pride when he was denounced by name on the floor of the state legislature - albeit only as a pawn of Communism - not as a full-fledged member.
Now, on to Top Comments:
From inkstainedwretch:
In the diary by Howard Stovall (about any possible replacement for Mitch McConnell) — I nominate this comment made by NotSoNew, as I strongly sympathize with young people inheriting a hellish world from my generation.
From TrueBlueMajority:
In the retracted diary by NOurusoff (using disinformation about the US role in Ukraine) — I don't know if you've posted this poem by angry marmot before, but if it has been a while, it deserves another go-round. I'm tempted to save it and copy paste it in all the UA diaries when the tankies show up!
And from Ed Tracey, your faithful correspondent this evening ........
In the diary by ericlewis0 on the announcement by Georgia governor Brian Kemp that he will not call a special session of the state legislature to remove Fani Willis as Fulton County district attorney — it isn’t just his own personal feelings on being trashed by 45, jfromga writes, it’s also the business community (including the entertainment industry) that wants stability.
Next - enjoy jotter's wonderful (and now eternal) *PictureQuilt™* below. Just click on the picture and it will magically take you to the comment featuring that photo.

Alas: we do not have Top Mojo for this evening.
