An open thread for tonight, after-the-jump ….
But first: Top Comments appears nightly, as a round-up of the best comments on Daily Kos. Surely ... you come across comments daily that are perceptive, apropos and .. well, perhaps even humorous. But they are more meaningful if they're well-known ... which is where you come in (especially in diaries/stories receiving little attention).------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Send your nominations to TopComments at gmail dot com by 9:30 PM Eastern Time nightly, or by our KosMail message board. Please indicate (a) why you liked the comment, and (b) your Dkos user name (to properly credit you) as well as a link to the comment itself.
Before getting to the comments … two passings of note for today.
While much has been written about Ed Asner …. I recall when (as a 1984 SNL guest host) he was on a take-off of the eerie Hitchcock film "Rear Window", where he turns to Martin Short's goofy character and says ... "You're a dead man, Ed Grimley!" ---> so absurd, I couldn't stop laughing. Vale, my fellow Ed.
And while there are many better drum solos I have listened to, over the years …. his solo on the song referenced below may be the most iconic: many drummers (if asked) could replicate at least its intro.
Finally, have a look at Odds & Ends - the weekly wrap-up diary of my drivel writings that have appeared in Cheers & Jeers and elsewhere: with some art, foreign news and just plain whimsy.
The "Who Lost the Week?!?!?" poll includes the likes of a Wyoming ski resort, Devin Nunes, Jacob Wohl, an Indonesia minister convicted of accepting bribery, the CEO of the ‘Time’s Up’ organization and the leader of the Proud Boys ..... which I hope you'll cast a ballot in.
Plus, a profile of the song lyricist John Bettis— whose lyrics have accompanied the music of songs performed by the Carpenters, Michael Jackson, James Ingram, 38 Special, Jackie DeShannon, Dionne Warwick, Rita Coolidge, Lee Ann Womack, Barbra Streisand, Nanci Griffith, Peabo Bryson, Jefferson Starship, Johnny Mathis, Julio Iglesias, George Strait, Journey, Joe Cocker, Judy Collins, Harry Connick Jr., Cass Elliott, and the Marshall Tucker Band … just for starters.
It is all at this link - stop by to cast a ballot ..... and help keep this crazy train rolling.
Now, on to Top Comments:
From inkstainedwretch:
In the diary by White Southern Boy (a veterinarian frustrated about having to deal with humans seeking invermectin for Covid treatment — this comment (made by u4riah) illustrates how advertising and Interwebz misinformation ... short-circuits the whole paradigm of rigorous medical training for people dispensing life and death medical advice.
And from Ed Tracey, your faithful correspondent this evening ........
In my colleague Chitown Kev’s offerings in the Abbreviated Pundit Roundup for today — specifically on those seeking to assist those impacted by Hurricana Ida … filkertom asks a question about the efforts of someone who seems to be willing to help out in most any disaster.
Next - enjoy jotter's wonderful (and now eternal) *PictureQuilt™* below. Just click on the picture and it will magically take you to the comment featuring that photo.
TOP PHOTOSAugust 28th, 2021 (NOTE: Any missing images in the Quilt were removed because (a) they were from an unapproved source that somehow snuck through in the comments, or (b) it was an image from the DailyKos Image Library which didn't have permissions set to allow others to use it.) |
And lastly: yesterday's Top Mojo - mega-mojo to the intrepid mik ...... who rescued this feature from oblivion:
