Top Comments: the Cat Memes edition

A look at two popular cat memes, after-the-jump ….

But first: Top Comments appears nightly, as a round-up of the best comments on Daily Kos. Surely ... you come across comments daily that are perceptive, apropos and .. well, perhaps even humorous. But they are more meaningful if they're well-known ... which is where you come in (especially in diaries/stories receiving little attention).

Regular readers of mine need little reminder of the feline fancier I am. Now in the Twitter and Instagram age, cat memes are all over the place: and I couldn’t begin to survey them. So, a look at two of them — interestingly, both white cats.

Her own bio describes Bitches the Cat as:

Born on a Wisconsin farm, hardened by the city. Political dissident. Cat art collector. The cat Frank White.

She ran in 2016 on the Catnip Party platform (all of its planks derided GOP primary candidate platitudes, and decried rising catnip prices).

And with her frequent barbed tweets at the GOP candidate …. she was actually blocked by the Trump twitter account. (“Blocking a cat?!?!” was the response).

 But Bitches is even better known for this exchange with ….. an astrophysicist:

Sadly, just two months later … Bitches the Cat shuffled off her mortal coil … or as she wrote in her Last Will & Testament, “I have moved on to the next stage of my journey”…. along with some choice words for you-know-who.

She has her own store, has left her empire to another white cat Floof Lion, as well as a relative newcomer, SportPepper Cat.

And now a meme you’re probably tired of seeing ………. but not me.

Smudge the Cat is a rescue cat living in Ontario, Canada … and appeared to develop a habit of wanting a seat at the family dinner table. As a carnivore, he grimaced at having to eat veggies … and was photographed so on Twitter.

Simple, huh? Yet now he has a widely-followed Twitter account, a merchandise website and donates some proceeds to a no-kill shelter …… all because someone else matched that photo with an image from the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills— captured from a season 2 episode that first aired in December 2011, showing Taylor Armstrong crying, yelling and pointing while co-star Kyle Richards tries to soothe her.

Taylor Armstrong says that she doesn’t mind her image being used, as “That is my past and I have moved on and am in a really healthy, happy marriage. It doesn’t seem like my life any longer”………... so we can all have a laugh, after all.

In the diary by SemDem about last night’s farcical “election hearing in Michigan” chaired by Rudy, Rudy, Rudy — and with the star witness (Melissa Carone) who seemed a cross between SNL alumnus Victoria Jackson (for the looks and crazy politics) and current SNL member Cecily Strong’s character Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started a Conversation With At a Party  — I think that stevemb may be onto something … in writing that Rudy should have had someone proofread the solicitation for witnesses that was sent out.
